Everybody has strong intentions for their fitness routine and their life as well, but what often happens when starting a fitness routine is you tend to quit going or slack off. You may feel overwhelmed and trying to do too much all at once. This is why it is important to focus on short-term goals and build off of those to achieve those bigger long-term goals. Check out these three tips for success!

Tip 1 – Hold yourself accountable.

This to me is everything. Accountability is all about being honest with yourself. You have to be consistent and keep yourself locked in on your goals. This can be done through the following:

  • Daily reminders
  • Pictures
  • Accountability sheets
  • Food Journal

Accountability sheets involve documenting each day and basically checking in with yourself. Fill these forms out every day and utilize them to track your progress. At the end of the month, you tally up your workouts. This is a huge victory for many.

Tip 2 – Develop and establish a support group.

Having support and rapport is an important part of getting back in the gym this year. Friends and family who support your fitness journey are crucial. These people can steer you from falling off the wagon and help you become stronger mentally and physically. Having someone there to reassure you when you are going through tough times or battles could be the difference to you sticking to your goals.

Tip 3 – How to stay motivated and confident.

Focus on what you do well and use this as your strength! This helps build your self-image and will help you continue to build off future successes. Find out what motivates you and how you can use this to make a change in your lifestyle. Whether it’s faith, family or friends, there is always something that makes us want to push ourselves. These can be known as intrinsic or extrinsic factors, meaning factors that are within the body or factors, which are outside the body. For example, you could be experiencing an intrinsic motivation if physical activity provides satisfaction, pleasure and excitement.

Once you figure out these factors and what drives you, apply them to your life on a daily basis to achieve the goals you’ve set out to crush!
